Naulakha Palace is one of the most remarkable heritage monuments of Gondal, Gujarat, and forms an important part of the historic Darbargadh, the fortified royal complex of the former Gondal State. Generally dated to 1748 CE, the palace is regarded as the oldest surviving palace in Gondal. Its name, Naulakha, is traditionally associated with the enormous expenditure of approximately nine lakh rupees during its construction, reflecting the scale of royal patronage of the period.
Built under the Jadeja Rajput rulers of Gondal, the palace served as an important royal residence and ceremonial space. Its historical significance extends beyond its association with the ruling family, as it preserves an exceptional record of the region’s courtly culture, decorative arts and architectural traditions. The palace complex also houses a valuable collection of royal artefacts, including furniture, textiles, silverware, books and other objects associated with the Gondal royal household.
