The House of MG is a meticulously restored early-20th-century family mansion, originally built between the 1900s and 1920s by the Mangaldas Girdhardas family—prominent textile industrialists of Ahmedabad. Situated in the heart of the historic old city, just steps away from the iconic Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, the mansion was once among the most distinguished private residences of the colonial era. Historical accounts note that Mahatma Gandhi stayed here upon his return to India.
The property has since been carefully transformed into a boutique heritage hotel that blends old-world elegance with contemporary comfort. Today, it stands as a vibrant cultural and hospitality landmark celebrating Gujarat’s textile traditions, craft heritage, and lifestyle history.
The hotel offers spacious rooms furnished with handcrafted furniture, vintage photographs, artisanal amenities, and modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, concierge services, accessible facilities, and thoughtful turn-down service. Surrounded by courtyards, fountains, and galleries displaying heirloom textiles, jewellery, and ritual objects, the estate offers an immersive cultural experience. Guests can enjoy dining at Agashiye, the celebrated rooftop Gujarati thali restaurant, as well as The Green House café. The property also features curated heritage walks, city tours, banquet venues, and recreational amenities including a pool, spa, fitness room, and children’s area.
Located just ~7 km from the airport and ~2 km from the railway station, The House of MG provides an authentic and luxurious stay within India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City.
